SINCE 1930

Company history

From father to son: a Dresden family story spanning four generations.

A family business with a history

Since 1930 the name Starke has stood for first-class butchery in Dresden Laubegast. What Richard Starke once founded is now run by the fourth generation, with the same passion and according to traditional recipes. Quality, regional origin and a close relationship with our customers have always been at the centre of what we do. Here is our story.

Familie Starke vor der Fleischerei Ladengeschäft der Fleischerei Starke in Dresden Laubegast

Four generations, one address

Richard Starke opened the butcher's shop at Leubener Straße 21 on 1 April 1930. His son Peter took over in 1967, followed in 2002 by Jens Starke, who runs the business with his wife Rita. Their son Lukas has been part of it since 2017 as the fourth generation.

The sausage is made here, not delivered. Around 100 varieties come from our own production, along with cured and cooked meats, smoked pork loin, the Laubegaster Schlange and ten homemade delicatessen salads. The recipes and spice mixtures still come from the grandfather.

Six times the Hamburg magazine Der Feinschmecker has named the business one of the 500 best butchers' shops in Germany, most recently in 2023.

If you are celebrating, our catering service is there too: suckling pig, stuffed roasts, hot and cold platters. Orders are best placed in the shop or by telephone, so quantities can be settled straight away.

OUR HOME

Where is Dresden Laubegast?

Laubegast is part of Dresden, the capital of Saxony, and lies directly on the Elbe, with its own shipyard that today serves the Saxon Steamship Company as a repair works.

The district has an almost village-like character, around 12,000 inhabitants, and belongs to the Leuben local authority area. This is exactly where Fleischerei Starke has stood since 1930.
